Joint master’s programme in International Tourism Events Management (ITEM) has been officially recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia. This is the first master programme leading to joint degree in Latvia reducing the gap between higher education in tourism field and tourism and events industry where Baltic States have been perceived as united destination in majority of the export markets. The programme is innovative in the Baltic region with content design of study modules, new study approaches and wide integration of new information communication tools and ambitions for high quality standards.

On March 7 the external expert visited Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences and evaluated the developed joint master’s degree programme. The visit included introduction to the university, getting acquainted with university management, as well as discussion regarding the newly developed study programme. On March 14, 2014, the Ministry of Education and Science in the official licencing and accreditation meeting gave approval for programme implementation.

The programme will be first launched in September 2014 and after completion of 3 semesters students will receive a joint master’s degree by Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Latvia, and Klaipeda University, Lithuania. The students will benefit from the internationalization of the study environment, having teammates from Latvia, Lithuania and other countries, and lecturers – experts of their field from various countries.
