In the framework of Erasmus Multilateral project „Joint Masters in International Tourism and Event Management” (ITEM) from February 5 to 7, 2013, project partners from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Italy are visiting Manchester Metrapolitan University and learning the experience of British colleagues in student group consulting method which will also be implemented in the development of the new joint master’s programme in tourism field.

The aim of this method is to provide students with enterprise consulting experience – an approach beneficial to both students and entrepreneurs. In this work seminar Latvian partnership is represented by Asoc. prof. Agita Līviņa, lecturers Inese Ebele and Iveta Druva Druvaskalne from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management and the representative of employers, the executive director of Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association Santa Graikste.

In the beginning of the work seminar the participants met the management of MMU Hollings Faculty and the lecturer Susan Moulding introduced with her experience, followed by question and discussion session where all partners commented their experience in cooperation with enterprises. Project participants also visited MMU partner enterprises, such as Kro restaurant in the centre of Manchester. During the following seminar days meetings are planned with the former employee of the marketing company “Marketing Manchester”, now lecturer at MMU S. Grahame, the leading manager of Metropoliten bar M. Holm and others. The project partners will also be introduced with the examples of e-learning platforms in MMU.

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) has a long lasting cooperation with MMU professor Tim Knowles, who has been giving several lectures in the courses at ViA and in the framework of this project develops a report on the tendencies and development of tourism and event management in the Baltic States.

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.
